Review : Fault in our stars

Aria

Fault in our stars is one of the amazing tragic love stories like other epics but the only difference here is that the fight is not with the world, its people, or norms, but with our own selves. Its a journey through which you will love walking but simultaneously agree that the world is unfair or in the words of Gus "Apparently the world is not a wish-granting factory."

This is book is about fighting against cancer not for their own self but for the ones we love. Cause that's the side effect of cancer, it not only affects the victims, or should we say fighters, but also the people around us.

The novel is by John Green and the title of the book is inspired by Shakespeare's play Julius Caesar, in which Cassius says to Brutus: "The fault, dear Brutus, is not in our stars, / But in ourselves, that we are underlings." The book won Goodreads Choice Awards: Best Young Adult Fiction in 2012 and Audie Award for Teens in 2013.

Sometimes, you read a book and it fills you with this weird evangelical zeal, and you become convinced that the shattered world will never be put back together unless and until all living humans read the book.

The book revolves around Hazel Grace Lancaster, a 16-year-old girl with thyroid cancer that has affected her lungs and makes it difficult for her to breathe. She uses a Cannula which connects to her oxygen tank. Her parents force her to attend a cancer support group fearing she might get depression staying at home all day. One of the visits, she meets and falls in love with Augustus Waters, a 17-year-old boy who suffered from osteosarcoma which caused him to lose his leg.

As the book progresses, we notice the changes they bring in each other's life including fulfilling the long lost dream of hazel to meet and get answers from her favorite author Peter Van Houten.

The book is not for those who are searching for a feel-good book. It's about a harsh reality involving illness and death. I can assure you that by the end of the book you will cry because that's how good this book is. As I quote Markus Zusak, bestselling author of The Book Thief, "You laugh, You cry, And then you come back for more." I personally loved the book and couldn't get out of it for months. I would recommend it to all the book readers out there as its worth the time.
